c. The Propaganda Pamphlet

On 2 June 1943, the PCK Chairman was informed that the German Propaganda Department was thinking of writing a pamphlet about Katyn; the proposition came with a request for a contribution in the form of a foreword. The pamphlet was to have a high print run and the distribution would be given over to the PCK along with half of the profit from sales. They also proposed the inclusion in the foreword of an appeal to the nation, similar to that already issued by the PCK, requesting detailed information of missing persons in Russia. In the rest of the pamphlet, there was to be the PCK’s report and the answer from the International Red Cross in Geneva in French with a Polish translation; and also the report written by the International Commission of Medical experts at Katyn in April, at the beginning of the exhumation work and handed to the German authorities. Needless to say, the PCK Executive Committee declined to take part in this publicity project of the German propaganda office.
